Reflexing Tulips

Reflexing Tulips

Similar to roses, you can transform the aesthetic of a tulip through reflexing, adding a unique flavor to your floral design. Reflexed tulips last about 5-7 days in a vase arrangement. To maintain their beauty, they should be kept in a cool place, refreshed with water actively, and the stems should be recut every few days.

Materials Needed:

  • Sharp scissors or secateurs
  • Gloves
  • A vase or bucket
  • 10-20 minutes per flower

Steps to Reflex Tulips:

  1. Condition the tulips by hydrating them for at least 2 hours, which will make peeling the petals easier.
  2. Start with the outer petals. Place your finger on the thicker part of a petal where it connects to the stem and gently pull it backward until it pops out.
  3. Follow the natural sequence of the petals and repeat this reflexing action as you move toward the center of the flower.
  4. Peeling back the petals will create a completely different flower, reminiscent of a clematis bloom.

Quick Tip: You can refrigerate tulips for up to 48 hours before working with them. Keep them in a cool, dark place to extend their lifespan. Once ready, recut the stems at a 45-degree angle and place them in fresh water.
