Bird Houses

Get Ready, Open Your Mind And Discover Homes Never Thought Possible!

Quick statistics: average 15-20 species of birds, with occasional visits from 10 less common species, creating a sense of fulfillment and entertainment.

Creating these bird tables and nest boxes, you will contribute back to nature, bringing you hours and hours of free TV. In addition to my fellow gardeners, these birds control pests, such as aphids, slugs, and snails. “Birds will soon come to know it as a food source, and it will become a regular stopping-off point. If nest boxes are provided, birds may set up home too.”

Lets began!!!!

This pretty hanging ‘pudding’ heart will look lovely in the garden. You can mould the puddings in any other suitably shaped moulds, or simply in empty yogurt pots, though these will take longer to set than those in flat moulds. A wreath of berries offers a tempting bird bonus.

You Will Need:

  • A pan
  • A wooden spoon
  • A string
  • A heart-shaped mould
  • Garden wire
  • Wire cutters.

Typical food used- 75g lard or white cooking fat, shelled nuts, seeds, berries, raisins, dried cranberries.

Birds Vistitors(Birds you will attract)- starlings, tits and titmice, nuthatches, waxwings.

Instructions:

  1. Place the lard or white cooking fat in the pan and slowly melt it over a gentle heat. The lard will be completely melted, then stir in a generous mixture of shelled nuts and seeds, and some raisins and cranberries.
  2. Lay a doubled piece of string at the bottom of a mould and spoon in the nut and seed mixture, embedding the string within. Smooth the top of the pudding and leave it to cool completely.
  3. Thread raisins and cranberries alternately onto a piece of garden wire long enough to surround the heart pudding. Twist the ends together and soak the wreath in water to plump up the fruit.
  4. When the pudding is set, turn it out of the mould and tie the string to the twisted ends of the wire so that the heart is suspended in the middle of the wreath. Tie a ribbon over the join to hide it, optional.
